Meanings are not determined by situations, but we determine ourselves by the meanings we give to situations.

Edith Cuevas - Mental therapist in Austin, Texas

Like my friends, I'm a mother, daughter, wife, sister, friend, and counselor.

Deciding on which therapist to see is tough, so I hope that this page will give you a glimpse into who I am and ultimately help you decide whether we might be a good fit to work together.

As a parent, I know what it's like to suppress emotions only to have them erupt, causing you to feel regret later. I understand the frustration that comes from not having the confidence to speak up for yourself. All of these things chip away at your self-esteem which can easily lead to depression.

I was born in Mexico City and moved to the U.S. when I was 6 years old. I was a shy kid and I remember what it was like to feel scared, nervous, out of place, and lonely. It would have been helpful to have someone guide me through that important transition; someone to help me develop my voice and help me see and embrace my strengths and use them to problem solve and develop assertiveness. My parents did the very best they could. I know that.
